Invasive razor clam ‘wolverine’ of the western Wadden Sea

The invasive American razor clam accounted for almost half of the total food consumption on Balgzand at the beginning of this century. In the scientific journal Marine Ecology Progress Series, researchers publish a full reconstruction of changes in the food web of this enormous mudflat in the western Wadden Sea. Covering the past four decades, they discovered that the invasive clam, at its height, raged around like a wolverine and was one of the most influential newcomers.
