Global-scale human impact on delta morphology has led to net land area gain

Globally, river deltas have gained around 54 square kilometers of land per year over the past 30 years, according to a study in Nature. These gains, however, are unlikely to be sustained throughout the 21st century owing to the expected rise in sea levels.
